Race Diary Oulton Park 2016
What a frustrating weekend — again!
During the free practice sessions on Saturday at Oulton Park, we had big issues with the car throughout, the heart of the problems being the diff. We tried changing it for qualifying and the car improved but still wasn't where we needed it to be. However I qualified in P14 which gave me hope for a top ten finish in Race 1. Although P14, I was only half a second off pole, which just shows how tight the qualifying session was; indeed there was only .7 of a second over the top 20.
We changed the car further for Race 1 but it went downhill and made the car very difficult to drive, and left us falling down the order. I pulled in after getting an overheating issue from going wide, and changed the race tactics while in the pits to use the remainder of the race as a practice.
This lead to big changes in Race 2 and on the warm up laps the car instantly felt much better. Although starting at the back of the grid I gained a lot of places at the start but was then taken out from Mark Howard who couldn't slow himself down for the corner. The result was heavy suspension damage leading to a DNF (did not finish).
Race 3 the Laser boys did a mega job getting the car back out on track. I started P32 and made a lot of places instantly, but early on I was hit side on going down towards turn 2 which bent the steering and made the car worse to drive, ending up only climbing to a hugely disappointing 20th.
The car will be fully sorted for Croft on 18/19 June and I’m determined to do well for the team and the fans! Can’t wait!
